DD Direct Plus
DD direct plus, launched on 16th December 2004, is a product by doordarshan, the national broadcaster in India. Doordarshan’s main job is to reach every nook and corner of India. But Doordarshan was unable to broadcast programmes in border, tribal, hilly and other inaccessible areas. So it thought of creating something that expands their reach from 90% to total 100%. And then only DD direct plus, incorporating “Ku-band broadcasting” technology came in to being.
Ku-Band transmission not only provides national channels, but also doordarshan and other free-to air channels. At present DD direct plus telecasts 50 free-to-air TV channels (including both Doordarshan and private channels).
For the sake of the people, DD direct plus as a national broadcaster has decided to give 10,000 Dish and Set Top Box free of cost at public institutions like Anganwadis, Schools, Youth Clubs e.t.c, in the uncovered areas.
The main advantage of using a DD direct + is that it does not charges any subscription fee from the viewer. Or in other words we can say that the subscriber is free from monthly payment for their services. Only one time installation charges have to be paid.
Thus it is a cheap and an affordable option.
But there are great complaints about its customer support services, like they don’t come in time, late response to the query of the customers.
Moreover it has got plenty of regional channels, which are of no use as one cannot understand that. So it’s really irritating to surf those channels.
On the whole it’s a good product by doordarshan as it will be reaching the uncovered areas. But for its long run, it will be better for them if they improve their services.
