Videocon to launch DTH service under D2H brand

The graph of Direct to Home industry is growing very rapidly. Till now 6 companies have launched their DTH Services and now it’s the turn of one of the largest manufacturer of electronic appliances, Videocon. Now Videocon is going to launch their DTH service under D2H brand.
They were going to test the signals in year 2008 but current stock market correction and hence the depletion of videocon shares might delay this launch to year 2009 -10.
The tag line of Videocon’s D2H DTH service is
“ Direct Hai Correct Hai ”
The person who would be heading the company’s DTH venture in India would be Anil Khera. Videocon has planned to spent Rs 1,000 crore in the coming year. Videocon added 4, 31,253 new customers in Oct’08. Videocon will be providing DTH connection of D2H in Rs 1000 including installation charges and free viewing of 1 or 2 months. The base price will be around Rs 100 having over 60 channels including some pay channels and news channels and their the biggest pack offered will be around Rs 350 including 130 channels including sports channels and pay channels.
The Videocon is making their Set Top Box in India which will help to offer cheap entry price. But they might not be giving all the channels you want due to the problem of limited space but you will get the leading channels. The advantage of their Television set will be that there will be no compulsion of buying Set Top Box, so you can save your money for buying new connection.
The Set Top Box of Videocon will be MPEG-4 means it will be Digital Satellite Receiver. IRDETO CAS System has been used by them as Encryption System. They are also going to use the service of a Korean world Leading Digital Set Top Box manufacturer namely ARION Technology.
The words told by the Saurabh Dhoot, Director of Videocon International Ltd were” Ours will be the most compelling service because we plan to bring down the cost of our offering at the point of source”.
The plan of the company is to manufacture around 40 lakh set top boxes in the first phase. The Videocon Company already has a technology tie up with Israeli firm Gilat Technology Networks. It has been selected because of its superior encryption technology. The company is already a manufacturer of Analogue boxes and has a wide network of dealers.
