Virus – Internet Gateway Internet Connection
This month I was surprised to see my Broadband (DataOne) bill exceeding the usual bill amount. I had exceeded the use age by 50% and I was sure that I have not used internet for unusual long time.
So what the reason? First I thought, May be someone knows my password etc and is using my account to surf internet. So, I changed my password and started monitoring if my internet useage reduces. But this had no effect.
Then I scanned my computer with Antivirus softwares like Kaspersky, Bitdefender free, Avast etc and Antispyware softwares like Spybot Search & Destroy, a-squareed free, AVG Anti Spyware and Spyware terminator.
All of these failed to find the problem. Then just by chance, I happened to see that there were two connecting under Network Connections on two of my computers. The new connection was named Internet gateway with a sub title of Internet connection.
I tried to delete it but I could not. I disabled it and my internet connection stopped working. Ahh I was so frustrated and this crap was eating my bandwidth etc for a long time almost 300 MB a day !
Anyhow after hours of research on the Internet, I found the answer to my problem.
Here is teh solution for those who are suffering from Same problem:-
go to Start
Control Panel
Ad/remove Programs
Ad/remove Windows Components
go to Network Services
Uncheck “Internet Gateway”
and finish by pressing OK.
I still don’t know how this component installed itself but atleast I have disabled it now and my internet bills are back to normal
